A literature review was conducted to examine the major curricula and instructional materials dealing with cancer etiology and prevention. Information is provided on background of cancer prevention, knowledge and attitudes of adolescents, and a justification for cancer education in schools. Recommendations for action are offered. This study examined the extent to which Fishbein's Model of Behavioral Intentions was able to predict breast self-examination behavior. A questionnaire was administered to 350 women who were classified according to frequency of breast self-examination. Results are set forth. Implications for health educators are considered. (MT)

Marshall, James R.; And Others – Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, 1983
Used a case-control study to provide individual-based data from 5,009 suicides and 17,064 controls, describing the impact of being a cancer patient on the odds of suicide. Data indicated that cancer patients are 50 to 100 percent more likely than nonpatients to commit suicide. (JAC)
