Reports longitudinal research which examined isolation among the unmarried aged and assessed personal characteristics associated with isolation from family and friends. Surveyed 299 older adults to develop hypotheses concerning the influence of life cycle, cultural, and structural factors on psychological desires satisfied through the social network.
