Peer reviewedKern, Jeffrey M.; MacDonald, Marian L. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1980
Results supported the reliability of the behavior sample measure and one self-report form. Convergent validity was evident for all assertion instruments, but only the role-play measure showed pronounced discriminant validity. The utility of global self-ratings of assertion and anxiety was minimal. (Author)
Descriptors: Anxiety, Assertiveness, Longitudinal Studies, Measures (Individuals)
Peer reviewedColeman, Marilyn; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1980
The mean IQ on the Slosson Intelligence Test (SIT) was substantially higher than expected based on the earlier Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT) scores. Sampling error and examiner error were excluded as explanations. Results suggest that the PPVT and SIT yield different scores and lack comparability. (Author)
Descriptors: Children, Comparative Analysis, Intelligence Tests, Intervention
Peer reviewedDean, Raymond S. – Journal of School Psychology, 1980
The validity and reliability of the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test was estimated with emotionally disturbed adolescents. Results indicated that the power of the test to predict future achievement of emotionally disturbed adolescents is comparable to that expected for normals. (Author)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Adolescents, Emotional Disturbances, Intelligence Tests
Peer reviewedLawson, J. S.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
A 30-item measure of self-esteem in social situations was developed. Factor analysis revealed that a single general factor accounted for 39.7 percent of the total variance. Reliability data based on 128 subjects and normative data based on 265 subjects are provided. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Factor Structure, Interpersonal Competence, Self Concept Measures, Self Esteem
Development and Validation of an Instrument to Assess the Clinical Performance of Medical Residents.
Peer reviewedKeck, Jonathan W.; Arnold, Louise – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
An instrument to assess specific components of the clinical performance of residents, regardless of their medical specialty, was developed and validated. The Resident Evaluation Form contains 33 rating scales which measure nine categories of performance. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Competence, Graduate Medical Education, Graduate Medical Students, Higher Education
Peer reviewedAshton, Roderick; White, Kenneth D. – British Journal of Psychology, 1980
When scores from a modified (modification affecting response bias) Sheehan/Betts imagery questionnaire were reanalyzed, previous findings--that females report more vivid imagery than males--were not confirmed. It is argued that previously reported sex differences may be artificial in so far as imagery vividness scores are concerned. (Author/KC)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Imagery, Response Style (Tests), Sex Differences
Peer reviewedJensema, Carl – American Annals of the Deaf, 1980
The paper discusses some problems in using achievement tests with hearing impaired students and offers some general suggestions for school testing programs. (PHR)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Elementary Secondary Education, Hearing Impairments, Test Interpretation
Peer reviewedKozma, Albert; Stones, M.J. – Journal of Gerontology, 1980
The new scale was a better predictor of "avowed happiness" in both validation and cross-validation samples than the existing scales used for comparison. Moreover, the new scale's test-retest reliability was within an acceptable range for this type of scale. (Author)
Descriptors: Foreign Countries, Happiness, Morale, Older Adults
Peer reviewedBeitel, Patricia A.; Mead, Barbara J. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1980
Examined the short form and eight subtests of the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency with a sample of preschoolers to assess its potential for discriminating among ages and between sexes and to see whether the short form accounted for a major portion of the variability of the complete battery. (Author/SJL)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Perceptual Motor Coordination, Performance Tests, Sex Differences
Ryckman, David B.; Van Nostrand, Maxine – Diagnostique, 1980
Stability coefficients on the Gray Oral Reading Tests were calculated for 68 elementary grade children classified as learning disabled. (Author)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Elementary Education, Exceptional Child Research, Learning Disabilities
Peer reviewedLeathers, Dale G.; Emigh, Ted H. – Quarterly Journal of Speech, 1980
Describes the development and testing of a new facial meaning sensitivity test designed to determine how specialized are the meanings that can be decoded from facial expressions. Demonstrates the use of the test to measure a receiver's current level of skill in decoding facial expressions. (JMF)
Descriptors: Communication Research, Emotional Response, Measurement, Nonverbal Ability
Peer reviewedSchissel, Richard J.; James, Linda B. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1979
The study compared 29 5- to 11-year-old children's performance on two tests of articulation, the Deep Test of Articulation and the Arizona Articulation Proficiency Scale: Revised. (Author/SBH)
Descriptors: Articulation (Speech), Elementary Education, Exceptional Child Research, Speech Handicaps
Peer reviewedWerts, C. E.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1980
This paper demonstrates how the problem of calibrating measures can be formulated in terms of confirmatory factor analysis. The relationships between traditional approaches and a confirmatory factor approach are specified. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Equated Scores, Factor Analysis, Intermediate Grades
Peer reviewedMcCullough, B. Claire; Zaremba, Barbara A. – Learning Disability Quarterly, 1979
The results of the Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests were found to be quite similar for both learning disabled and normal Ss, with high reliability and a unidimensional factor structure. The same was found for the Keymath Diagnostic Arithmetic Test, though the assumption of a unidimensional math achievement was found to be less defensible for the LD…

Peer reviewedNagle, Richard J. – School Psychology Digest, 1979
Research supports the reliability and validity of the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities (MSCA); but its concurrent validity with conventional intelligence tests suggests that the McCarthy General Cognitive Index and Intelligence Quotient are not comparable. The MCSA eliminates certain weaknesses found in similar tests: the Stanford-Binet and…
