Adults took the Rod and Frame, Portable Rod and Frame, and Embedded Figures Tests. Absolute and algebraic frame-effect scores were more reliable and valid than rod-effect algebraic scores. Examined whether lengthy responses to the blank card reflect a contaminating factor such as glibness in creativity research. Two groups of college students completed the Remote Associates Test, Thematic Apperception Test, or Hand Test. Results suggested that blank cards among ambiguous stimuli evoke not glibness but economy of expression. (JAC)

Examines the use of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (Megargee typology) as a valid classification system in correctional decision making in a series of six articles. Reviewed 149 studies which measured counselor or therapist competencies and examined them for evidence of the reliability and validity associated with the assessment instruments. Only 43 percent of the measurements included reliability data computed at the time they were used, and only 12 percent were accompanied by evidence of their validity.…

Investigated the relationship of math anxiety to test anxiety in 769 college students. Results indicated nonequivalent internal consistency and test-retest reliability for three math anxiety measures tested and small but significant sex differences in anxiety. Math anxiety measures were more closely related to each other than to test anxiety. (WAS)

Describes the development of a scale specifically designed to measure marital instability among intact couples. Data from a telephone survey of 2,034 married men and women showed the Marital Instability Index to be a reliable and valid indicator. An abbreviated form of the index is presented. (Author/JAC)

Describes the development of an Index of Parenthood Motivation (IPM) and reports results of two studies employing the index. The IPM appears to be a useful instrument to measure intensity of the wish to have a child and may be useful in investigations in which parenthood motivation is an important variable. (Author/RH)

Incidence sampling is a parsimonious method whereby a large number of examinees can be measured on many variables (such as test items) to assess group characteristics.
