Peer reviewedHill, B. J. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1978
Investigates empirically, for a sample of university examinations in engineering, the influence of examination length on reliability and discrimination. (Author)
Descriptors: Educational Psychology, Grading, Illustrations, Item Analysis
Peer reviewedHansen, David O. – Rural Sociology, 1978
The study aimed to evaluate empirically the reliability and validity of the Occupational Aspiration Scale (OAS) for southern Brazil. Analyses of mean differences between types of items conformed to expected variations, and the OAS had satisfactory construct validity for the Brazilian sample. However other analyses indicated that it had somewhat…
Descriptors: Career Awareness, Cross Cultural Studies, Occupational Aspiration, Sociology
Peer reviewedWolfe, John H. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1978
Published data on the Strong Vocational Interest Blank profiles of 113 occupational groups are analyzed by three clustering procedures: hierachical grouping of standard scores and of orthonormal factor scores, and NORMIX analysis assuming equal covariance matrices for each group. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Cluster Analysis, Interest Inventories, Occupational Tests, Occupations
Spalding, Norma V.; Geiser, Marilyn Charlesworth – Academic Therapy, 1978
Four classroom teachers minimally trained to use the Quick Neurological Screening Test tested 13 high achievers and 11 learning disabled elementary students. (CL)
Descriptors: Elementary Education, Exceptional Child Research, Learning Disabilities, Neurological Impairments
Peer reviewedAndersen, Erling; Madsen, Mette – Psychometrika, 1977
Methods for estimating the mean and variance of latent ability parameters of a normally distributed population that has been tested with Rasch model-calibrated test items are discussed. Methods for checking the normality of the population are also included. (JKS)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Aptitude Tests, Latent Trait Theory, Mathematical Models
Peer reviewedCliff, Norman – Psychometrika, 1977
Measures of consistency and completeness of order relationships derived from test data such as Guttman scales are proposed. The measures are generalized to apply to incomplete data such as data from tailored testing. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Adaptive Testing, Computer Assisted Testing, Computer Programs, Item Analysis
Peer reviewedSchmidt, Frank L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Urry's procedure for approximating latent trait test models is shown to tend to underestimate item discriminatory power and overestimate item difficulty. A method for correcting these biases is provided, and implications of the procedures are discussed. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Item Analysis, Latent Trait Theory, Mathematical Models, Test Bias
Peer reviewedStillman, Paula L.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
The Arizona Clinical Interview Rating Scale is examined for construct validity as a instrument to evaluate the interviewing techniques of medical students. Evidence was gathered in the areas of convergent and discriminant validity, sensitivity to change, internal consistency, and objectivity. (Author)
Descriptors: Clinical Diagnosis, Higher Education, Interviews, Medical Students
Porecki, Daniel; Vandergoot, David – Offender Rehabilitation, 1978
The Hand Test was administered to 107 maximum-security prison inmates. The Acting Out Score (AOS) was computed, and one year later, actual acting out for the same inmates was recorded. Determined that the Hand Test AOS is useful in identifying inmates who have potential for acting out. (Author)
Descriptors: Behavior Patterns, Behavior Problems, Correctional Institutions, Criminals
Peer reviewedGenthner, Robert W.; Jones, Daniel E. – Journal of Personality Assessment, 1976
The results from these analyses supported the hypothesis that the Personal Responsibility Rating System has construct validity as a measure of psychological health. (Author/DEP)
Descriptors: Graduate Students, Personality Measures, Rating Scales, Responsibility
Peer reviewedJohns, Jerry L. – Contemporary Education, 1977
The use of informal reading inventories can help insure that students are provided with reading materials that match their reading ability. (MB)
Descriptors: Informal Reading Inventories, Instructional Improvement, Reading Instruction, Student Placement
Peer reviewedEpstein, Michael H.; And Others – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1977
The reliability of the Matching Familiar Figures Test, a measure of reflection-impulsivity, with 20 impulsive learning disabled boys (mean age 10 years) was investigated. nAuthor)
Descriptors: Conceptual Tempo, Elementary Education, Exceptional Child Research, Learning Disabilities
Peer reviewedGreenbaum, Sidney – Linguistics, 1977
To ensure reliable language data for research there is a need for experiments eliciting acceptability judgments. Experimental data are discussed to show that evaluation of a sentence may be affected by the sentence with which it is paired. Sentences with similar deviances should be presented as a set for evaluation. (CHK)
Descriptors: Context Clues, Language Research, Language Tests, Language Usage
Peer reviewedWinter, David G.; Stewart, Abigail J. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1977
When subjects are instructed to reinstate their original state of mind and write the same stories, or not to worry about their stories, test-retest reliability of need for power is substantially higher than the levels usually found for Thematic Apperception Test motives and approaches levels found with objective personality tests. (Author)
Descriptors: College Students, Individual Power, Motivation, Personality Measures
Peer reviewedKendall, Philip C.; Little, Verda L. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1977
Examined the relative utility of the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, the Quick Test, and the Revised Beta as measures of intelligence in relation to the Wechsler Scales. Brief measures were not acceptable Wechsler substitutes with juvenile delinquents. (Author)
