Unreliable profiles impose the difficulty that ordinal and interval relations among the individual's scores become uncertain or unstable. Used the Black Student Stress Inventory to examine stress factors for Black students in six areas: (1) personal; (2) interpersonal; (3) academic; (4) environmental; (5) financial; and (6) career. Item analysis indicated the BSSI is reliable. Program implications were suggested. (JAC)

A paradoxical phenomenon of decreases in reliability as the number of elements averaged over increases is shown to be possible in multifacet reliability procedures (intraclass correlations or generalizability coefficients).
