Casswell, Sally; And Others – Journal of Drug Education, 1982
Used responses to an anonymous questionnaire to evaluate the effects of a drug education program among high school students. Results indicated a relatively long lasting increase in knowledge but no significant effects of the program on either attitudes or self-reported past or anticipated behavior. (Author)

Longstreet, Wilma S. – Contemporary Education, 1983
Educational researchers must clarify the distinction between the terms "ethnicity" and "ethnic membership." The use of broad terms based on easily observed traits, such as racial characteristics or language, has infiltrated otherwise well-executed studies and undermined their validity. (PP)

Sleeter, Christine E. – NASSP Bulletin, 1982
Concludes a review (begun in this journal's previous issue) of 16 studies, currently being conducted or recently completed, of secondary education in America. Outlines the types of information that these studies can be expected to generate and comments on the probable quality, usefulness, and shortcomings of the various findings. (PGD)

Oliver, Dennis S. – Journal of the Society of Research Administrators, 1982
A model for technology transfer is presented with notes on the many, often unforseen influences on the transfer process: competence, cultural and political context (especially in a multinational company), competition, satisfying multiple expectations, and avoiding misunderstandings. (MSE)

Birnbaum, Philip H. – Journal of the Society of Research Administrators, 1982
A discussion of the state of interdisciplinary research (IDR) in academia, government, and industry in North America and Europe focuses on current issues and themes, organizational structure, researchers, input-output processes, the process of IDR, outputs, and future research needs. Crouter, Ann C. – Children Today, 1982
Discusses the findings of studies of how parents' work experiences affect children, pointing out methodological problems as well as areas for further research and emphasizing the need for a shift from studies of parents' work status per se to investigations of coping strategies in a time of dual-earner families. (RH)
Descriptors: Child Development, Employed Parents, Employed Women, Family Life
McCombs, Barbara L. – Journal of Instructional Development, 1981
Discusses four major research problems concerned with the application of learning strategies in the context of computer-based military technical training that have been addressed by an ongoing four-year effort. Nineteen references are listed. (LLS)

Lane, Irving M.; And Others – Group and Organization Studies, 1981
Presents both logical and empirical evidence to illustrate that the conventional scoring algorithm for ranking tasks significantly underestimates the initial level of group ability and that Slevin's alternative scoring algorithm significantly overestimates the initial level of ability. Presents a modification of Slevin's algorithm which authors…

Jorm, Anthony F. – Cognition, 1979
Jorm did not, as Ellis (TM 504 892) implies, propose that developmental and acquired phonemic-deep dyslexia are functionally equivalent. Rather, Jorm identified functional similarities. Most of Ellis' criticisms are irrelevant because they are directed at this equivalency. (Author/CP)
Descriptors: Dyslexia, Elementary Education, Error Analysis (Language), Etiology
Forman, David C.; Chapman, David W. – Educational Technology, 1979
Reviews the evolution of research on effective teaching in an effort to account for the lack of practical findings to assist classroom teachers. Four influences are detailed: teacher qualities vs the nature of teaching, lack of guiding theories/models, methodological problems, and the lack of criterion measures for comparisons. (RAO)

Sanders, James T. – Journal of Educational Thought, 1978
The contemporary behavioralistic analysis of teaching assumes a necessary empirical relationship between differences in teacher behavior and levels of student achievement. This paper argues that this assumption lacks both empirical support and conceptual plausibility. Consequences of accepting the null hypothesis of differential teacher…

McClelland, Lou; Cook, Stuart W. – Evaluation Review, 1980
Electricity conservation programs were implemented in matched pairs of office-classroom-laboratory buildings and dormitories. The methodological problems of predicting consumption levels, interpreting why changes in consumption occurred, and estimating initial waste levels are discussed along with their implications for the conduct of behavioral…

Dean, Raymond S. – School Psychology Review, 1981
An examination of Orton's early hypothesis of inconsistent cerebral dominance for linguistically disabled children in light of some 50 years of research is provided. Although a hypothesis based on data from nonintrusive measures of functional asymmetry with learning impaired children is postulated, caution in this area is suggested. (Author/AL)
