Examines the degree of compatibility between the personalities of 22 self-reported child abusers and the target child singled out for abuse in the family. Results showed abusing parents tended to be rigid while their children were more often coded as artistic. Results confirmed Holland's theory of personality. (JAC)

Studies of delinquency indicate that fathers are more influential than mothers in the development of delinquent behavior in their children. The responses of 90 Georgia delinquent girls and 85 Oklahoma delinquent girls concerning their fathers were analyzed. Delinquents from both groups indicated that they were not close to their fathers. This study investigated the impact of shifts in age identification by older people (N=323) from "middle-aged" to "elderly" within the context of the labeling theory of deviance. Age identification was unrelated to attitudes toward old people and the label "elderly" did not affect self-esteem through any "gate-keeping" process. (Author)
