Goal setting, empowering champions (individuals who make a difference in initiating change), faculty-initiated activities, and faculty-staff development opportunities are the four major factors in determining success in computing at the University of Georgia. Each of these areas is discussed. (JN)

Erosion of the home-school relationship undermines teaching and learning, particularly in schools serving groups with gaps between their own social experiences and mainstream expectations. The study was designed to increase the amount of time 37 severely handicapped students living in a residential facility engaged in age-approprite and functional activities. Teacher affective sensitivity was studied in an examination of the effects of a videotaped interpersonal skill development program on teacher behavior. Results indicate that this model of human relations training is successful. Implications are discussed. (Author/DF)

The major components of the dual job pattern of physical education teacher and athletic coach are explored in this article. Recommendations for maintaining effective performance in both roles are suggested. (DF)

Examined the impact of elementary school students' participation in test interpretation on teachers' and students' attitudes toward the tests. Results showed students who participated in the interpretation session felt they had done better on the test. Most teachers reported positive attitudes toward the program. (JAC)

Two criteria for social studies programs are presented: (1) deal directly with the concept of justice, and (2) provide for the direct practice of citizenship. Four texts are examined for meeting the criteria. Finally, a hypothetical grades 1-12 program is described that meets the criteria. (ND)
