Tested the relationship between psychological depression and feeling old in 308 older adults. Results indicated that regardless of age, people who felt older were more depressed and less healthy than people who felt younger. Depression was predicted by health and purpose in life, rather than where respondents lived. (JAC)

Investigated the validity of two approaches to the assessment of female identity status: the standard Outer Space interview used with males, and an Inner Space interview specifically developed for females. Found that, contrary to Erikson's theory, college women form their identities around Outer Space as well as Inner Space issues. (Author/GC)

The relationship of identity status to ego development and locus of control in college women was examined. Identity statuses did not differ significantly in self-reported locus of control, but did differ on the "depth" measure of ego development. Identity achievers were more advanced in ego development. Adults with different sex-role identities rated likability of male and female stimulus persons. Under some conditions, all female subjects and feminine males made more polar ratings of opposite-sex stimulus persons.
