White, Harrison C. – Amer J Sociol, 1970
A new model for inheritance in intergenerational mobility is developed and related to mover-stayer models of intragenerational mobility. Application is made to data for the United STates, Britain, and Denmark. Predictions are required to match observed proportions of men remaining in their origin strata and also the observed distribution of men…

Heath, Robert W.; Brandon, Paul R. – Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, 1982
This paper discusses problems associated with the application of experimental methods to program evaluation, proposes an alternative approach (program-attribute scaling), and reports the procedure and results of a trial application of the alternative approach. (Author)

Bloom, Allan M. – Research in Higher Education, 1983
A statistical methodology applied to three years of teaching load data from 21 major public universities yields an objective, broadly applicable set of student credit hours (SCH) weight factors. A table of optimum weighting factors for upper division and graduate SCH is presented. (Author/MLW)

Anderson, O. Roger – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1983
A mathematical model of information acquisition is presented and empirically evaluated in comparison to evidence obtained from experimental studies of science content acquisition. Implications of the model for human information acquisition and future research are discussed in the context of the unique theoretical framework of the model. (Author/JN)

Roberts, Nancy – Classroom Computer News, 1983
Explains the three main concepts of the system dynamics approach to model building (dynamics, feedback, and systems) and the basic steps to problem solving by simulation applicable to all educational levels. Some DYNAMO commands are briefly described. (EAO)

Fishe, Raymond P. H.; And Others – Economics of Education Review, 1981
To correct for sample selection bias problems, the authors present a mathematical model of decision-making and apply it to young women's decisions regarding college attendance or labor force participation. They find that the two decisions are strongly correlated and together affect the estimated rate of return on college education. (Author/RW)

Sofo, Anthony – Australian Mathematics Teacher, 1981
Some single species and two species interactions in population models are presented to show how credible examples can be used to teach an underlying, common mathematical structure within apparently different concepts. The models examined consist of differential equations, and focus on real-world issues. (MP)

Waldron, Manjula B. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
A quantitative model of speech development is proposed based on observations of normal hearing and congenitally deaf children. Nonlinear controls used during the development of suprasegmental and segmental aspects of speech are identified. Linguistic components of speech are ignored. The importance of the associative cortex in speech-motor control…

Algina, James; Olejnik, Stephen F. – Evaluation Review, 1982
A method is presented for analyzing data collected in a multiple group time-series design. This consists of testing linear hypotheses about the experimental and control group-means. Both a multivariate and a univariate procedure are described. (Author/GK)

Meunier, John – Journal of Architectural Education, 1980
The teaching of technology in the early years and, in particular, in the first and second year architectural design studios, is discussed. Technology implies performance, which may be measured in nonvisual ways, and implies the application of scientific principles to the building design process. (MLW)

Berne, Robert; Stiefel, Leanna – Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, 1982
Various simple ex post wealth neutrality measures capture different aspects of the concept; the use of one measure alone or several measures independently can lead to interpretation problems. The Adjusted Relationship Measure is introduced to pay attention to actual revenue differences associated with wealth differences. (Author/BW)

Bergan, John R. – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1981
This study investigated the extent to which various latent class models adequately described elementary rule-governed mathematical behaviors. Children were given a fraction concepts test. Results supported the adoption of a set of three-class models including a mastery class, a nonmastery class, and a transitional class to describe the data.…
