Elmore, Patricia B.; Pohlmann, John T. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1978
Instructors answered questions indicating personal warmth, professorial rank, years of teaching experience, sex, and class size. Students completed the Instructional Improvement Questionnaire. The classes which received high ratings were small in size, were taught by instructors who rated themselves as warm, and had students who expected high…

Lord, Frederic M. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1977
Under given conditions, conventional testing and computer-generated repeatable testing (CGRT) are equally effective for estimating examinee ability; CGRT is more effective for estimating the mean ability level of a group and less effective for estimating ability differences among individuals. These conclusion are drawn from domain-referenced test…

Linn, Robert L.; Drasgow, Fritz – Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice, 1987
This article discusses the application of the Golden Rule procedure to items of the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Using item response theory, the analyses indicate that the Golden Rule procedures are ineffective in detecting biased items and may undermine the reliability and validity of tests. (Author/JAZ)

Okeafor, Karen R.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1987
An effort to operationalize the logic of confidence construct is described that uses item development, factor analysis, and reliability and validity tests. Data from public school and higher education teachers indicate correlations for teacher logic of confidence, status obeisance, professional zone of acceptance, and autonomy. (TJH)

Haertel, Edward – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1984
Multiple-choice reading comprehension items from a conventional, norm-referenced reading comprehension test were successfully analyzed using a simple latent class model. Results support the use of latent class, state mastery models with more heterogenous item pools than has been previously advocated. (Author/PN)

Abramson, Paul – American School and University, 1984
While the total market in educational construction is static at 9.7 billion dollars, spending patterns changed during 1983, with more money spent on rehabilitating existing buildings than on new construction. Seven tables provide a regional breakdown of completed and ongoing construction expenditures. (TE)

Yoshida, Roland K. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1976
Teacher-selected test level resulted in: (1) most Educable Mentally Retarded students tested responding above chance levels on all subtests of the Metropolitan Achievement Test, (2) reliability coefficients comparable to those of the standardization sample, and (3) moderate to high positive point-biserial correlations for all subtest-level…

Thang, Siew Ming – Online Submission, 2005
This paper compares the approaches to studying of Malaysian distance learners and on-campus learners to find out to what extent the distance learning programme of a public university in Malaysia is effective in meeting the learning needs of its distance learners. The influences of the differences in modes (distance learners vs. on-campus learners)…

Pollack, Judith M.; Rock, Donald A.; Weiss, Michael J.; Atkins-Burnett, Sally; Tourangeau, Karen; West, Jerry; Hausken, Elvira Germino – National Center for Education Statistics, 2005
This methodological report documents the design, development, and psychometric characteristics of the assessment instruments used in the third grade data collection of the ECLS-K. The instruments examined include those developed to measure cognitive and socioemotional development. In addition, issues in analyzing longitudinal measures are…

Gonzales, Patrick; Calsyn, Christopher; Jocelyn, Leslie; Mak, Kitty; Kastberg, David; Arafeh, Sousan; Williams, Trevor; Tsen, Winnie – 2001
The Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) is one of the most comprehensive international studies of schooling and students' achievement in science and mathematics. TIMSS was originally conducted in 1995. Four years later in 1999, the Third International Mathematics and Science Study-Repeat (TIMSS-R) was conducted. This document…

Brennan, Robert L. – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1973
A review of four areas in which the computer has influenced the theory and practice of achievement testing: a) test scoring and item analysis, b) item sampling, c) item generation, and d) the sequencing of items resulting in various types of adaptive testing. Also, reference is made to the impact of computer assisted achievement testing upon the…

Kolstad, Rosemarie K.; And Others – Journal of Research and Development in Education, 1983
A study compared college students' performance on complex multiple-choice tests with scores on multiple true-false clusters. Researchers concluded that the multiple-choice tests did not accurately measure students' knowledge and that cueing and guessing led to grade inflation. (PP)

Marsh, Herbert W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
This study compares multitrait-multimethod analyses (MTMM) performed on items and factor scores derived from the items. Based upon this demonstration, researchers are encouraged to conduct a preliminary factor analysis before analyzing MTMM data whenever there is a doubt about the underlying trait structure.
