The exchange of self-disclosures was studied in a experimental setting and was found to function in a manner consistent with social exchange theory in both male and female groups of strangers. A positive relationship was found to exist between self disclosure and liking patterns. (Author)

The interpersonal behaviors of depressed and control Ss were compared. The results were generally consistent in showing depressed Ss to be lower than controls on a number of operational measures of social skill (i.e., activity level, interpersonal range, rate of positive reactions emitted, and action latency).
