Studied the relationship between marital satisfaction and occupational interest similarity of married couples (N=44) within the context of Holland's theory of vocational choice. Data from 483 workers in 172 occupations were examined for correlations of 11 congruence indices to each other and to 2 job satisfaction measures. None of the 22 correlations between indices and measures was significant. The congruence-satisfaction relationship varied according to Holland personality type. (SK)

This study was designed to test the relationship between spouse personality congruence based on Holland's typology and marital satisfaction. Satisfaction was tested at three levels including a sample of distressed couples seeking marital counseling. Congruence level was found to be a highly reliable predictor of marital satisfaction. Surveyed 126 married couples to study factors related to marital satisfaction. Results showed personality compatibility was a major factor in satisfaction. Individuals whose spouses were more accurate in perceiving their satisfaction and those in relationships with a previous marriage were also more satisfied. (JAC)

An examination of the relationship among nine measures of Holland's concept of congruence and their relationship to job stress used data from 154 workers. Iachan's M index was the best predictor of stress and strain. The relationship between congruence and stress was significant but dependent on the congruence measure used. (SK)
