Three phases of psychiatric hospital treatment of children ages 6 to 12 years, admitted to the hospital because of suicidal threats or suicidal attempts, are described. The treatment procedures are illustrated by suicidal case examples of a depressed girl, an acting-out boy, and a psychotic boy. (Author)

Attempted suicide is considered to be a form of deviant behavior. Multiple suicide attempts are evaluated within the labeling perspective. Specifically, it is determined if labeling theory can explain acts repeated suicide attempts. Labeling by family and friends was found to be significantly related to repeat. (Author)

Most follow-up studies of suicides are made after a relatively short period of time. The present study involved 229 attempted suicides hospitalized during the years 1933-1942.
