Tatsuoka, Kikumi K. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1985
A probablistic approach to classification and diagnosis of erroneous rules of operations that result from misconceptions ("bugs") in a procedural domain of arithmetic is introcuced. Variability of response errors is explicitly treated through item response theory. As a concrete example, a signed-number subtraction dataset is analyzed.…

Hare, Victoria Chou; Borchardt, Kathleen M. – Journal of Educational Research, 1985
In a modified replication study, a general question intended to capture spontaneous detection of inconsistent information found neither good nor poor comprehenders successful. In response to a specific question, however, good comprehenders evinced far superior error detection than poor comprehenders. Reasons are speculated upon. (Author/MT)

LeBlanc, Judith M.; And Others – Journal of Special Education Technology, 1985
The need for developing a technology of teaching that equals current sophistication of microcomputer technology is addressed. Tager-Flusberg, Helen – Child Development, 1985
Findings suggest that semantic knowledge for concrete objects is represented and organized in similar ways in autistic, retarded, and normal children. Previous findings on cognitive deficits in autistic children are more likely related to their inability to use cognitive representations in an appropriate and flexible manner. (Author/RH)

Blumenthal, Peter – Linguistik und Didaktik, 1976
First examines German modal verbs with respect to multiple meanings and synonymy, finding that "implications," especially presuppositions, account for important differences in their uses. The same approach is used on French modals. Common features and differences are studied, and typical errors are predicted and classified. (Text is in…

Hofland, Brian F.; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1981
Two studies are reported that examine intraindividual variability in performance on measures of fluid intelligence, varying either practice or testing time conditions. Substantial improvement in level of correct performance is obtained for both conditions; error patterns, however, differ for the two. (Author/GK)

Johnson, John P.; And Others – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1980
The study compared the productions of 35 articulation impaired children (ages 3 to 10) obtained by picture elicited single word and connected speech sampling methods. Productions were compared on the basis of both the number and type of errors made under the two testing conditions. (Author/PHR)
