Bookstein, Abrham – Library Quarterly, 1974
Discusses three types of faults which commonly occur in statistical sampling. (JG)
Descriptors: Error Patterns, Library Research, Research Methodology, Sampling
Mayo, G. Douglas – Journal of Computer-Based Instruction, 1975
Ten common errors in planning a Computer Managed Program are listed. (HB)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Instruction, Computer Science, Curriculum Development, Error Patterns

DiSimoni, Frank G. – Child Development, 1975
Examined 3- and 4-year-olds with regard to their abilities in recognizing differences between certain speech sounds and their performance in imitating and spontaneously generating the same sounds in familiar words. Results are related to a theory of phonemic development in children. (Author/SDH)
Descriptors: Error Patterns, Imitation, Perceptual Development, Phonemes

Bird, Kevin D. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1975
Generalizations of the Scheffe, Tukey, and Bonferroni-t techniques are presented, each of which controls the experimentwise error rate for a particular type of partially or fully planned analysis. All three procedures provide more power than multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) tests. (Author/BJG)

Gerber, Michael M.; Hall, Robert J. – 1981
In a replication of an earlier study, the spellings produced by 47 learning disabled (LD) students (ages 7 to 11 years) were classified in terms of a hierarchy of spelling strategies presumed to result in conventional spelling. The developmental trends for the spelling strategies used by the LD Ss were compared to the trends previously observed…

Sachar, Jane; And Others – 1979
This study compared errors made while solving equations using literals (letters) with errors made while solving the same equations using numerals. The subjects were 54 Navy students enrolled in a remedial mathematics course. Error data were analyzed by means of coding all errors into ten major categories, each containing subcategories. Students…

Shoemaker, David M. – 1972
Investigated empirically through post mortem item-examinee sampling were the relative merits of two alternative procedures for allocating items to subtests in multiple matrix sampling and the feasibility of using the jackknife in approximating standard errors of estimate. The results indicate clearly that a partially balanced incomplete block…

Hannan, Michael T. – 1976
Aggregation, or grouping, is a statistical procedure through which all members of a study within a specified range of scores (usually observed scores) are assigned a common or "group" score (for example, the group mean). The various social science methodology literatures agree on the costs of grouping: not only does one always lose…

Games, Paul A. – 1977
Games (1973) criticized the Marascuilo and Levin (1970) "nested" or simple effects design as a poor substitute for the usual logic of a factorial analysis of variance. Marascuilo and Levin's use of "nesting" is completely idiosyncratic and contrary to well-established usage, thus confusing the student. Proper usage is…

Cairns, Ed – Journal of Genetic Psychology, 1978
Examines the possible changes in Matching Familiar Figures (MFF) response times and errors associated with age. The subjects were 23 boys and girls aged 5-13. (MP)

Oppenheim, Charles; Renn, Susan P. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1978
Citations of 23 old papers in physics and physical chemistry were studied in 978 papers in which they appeared in 1974-1975. Using a new typology of reasons for citing the papers, it was determined that in about 60 percent of the cases, the papers are still being actively used. (Author/MBR)

Williams, Richard H.; Zimmerman, Donald W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
The usual formulas for the reliability of differences between two test scores are based on the assumption that the error scores are uncorrelated. Formulas are presented for the general case where this assumption is unnecessary. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Correlation, Error of Measurement, Error Patterns, Scores
Federman, Fran Dobbins – Balance Sheet, 1976
Ten common typewriting errors are listed based on an analysis of student papers. (HD)

Fujiki, Martin; And Others – Journal of Communication Disorders, 1987
Language impaired subjects (N=10) at each age level from 6 through 10 were evaluated for ability to correct grammatical violations of word order. Normal 6-, 7-, and 8-year-olds performed better than language impaired age-matched peers, and language-impaired 9- and 10-year-olds performed better than younger impaired subjects. (Author/DB)
