The educational component of community development and the role of professionals who assist community groups are discussed. Community development as an educational process helps citizens understand the many facets of their community and learn how to obtain support to maintain or improve it. (Author)

Sixty-four 3- and 4-year-olds were asked to identify another's view of a spatial array either verbally or by picture selection. Results indicate that verbalization leads to substantially more correct responses. Girls' performance was significantly better than boys' performance across both response modes. (Author/DB)

The problem-solving performance of elderly individuals was facilitated by manipulating the demands of problem-solving tasks. The fact that elderly individuals can use more efficient strategies under certain circumstances suggests that the elderly have such strategies in their repertoires. (Author)

Poor performance on the search task, which differentiated the clinical groups from the normal group but not from one another, was associated across groups with adverse conduct ratings, lower achievement, and lower scores on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) Arithmetic, Coding, Information, Digit Span (ACID) subtests.
