Zimmerman, Barry J.; Blotner, Roberta – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1979
The effects of a social model on first- and second-grade children's persistence in problem solving were studied using a wire-puzzle task. Both duration of effort and success of the model significantly affected children's persistence, compared with that of a control group. (Author/RD)

Rao, Y. K. – Chemical Engineering Education, 1979
Shows that upon incorporating an irreversible step into an otherwise reversible Carnot Cyclic process there results a diminution of thermodynamic efficiency and a simultaneous augmentation of the entropy of the universe. (Author/HM)

Roark, Albert E.; Wilkinson, Linda – Group and Organization Studies, 1979
When managed effectively, conflict can lead to goal satisfaction, more creative solutions, and enhanced commitment to relationships. Approaches to conflict management are discussed and categorized. Similarities and contributions of widely used models are presented. Models that convert conflicts into problems to which problem-solving techniques can…

Sattler, Howard E.; And Others – Journal of Psychology, 1979
Children in the response-cost condition required more trials to reach a performance criterion and exhibited longer response times than children receiving reinforcement only. Response cost appeared to produce a negative effect that interfered with problem solving ability. (Author/RL)

Burton, John K.; And Others – Educational Leadership, 1980
The need for affective education has been expressed throughout the history of public schools. Justification for moral education today can be made on the basis of any of the five most common types of needs: normative, felt, expressed, comparative, or anticipated. (Author/MLF)

Hoover, William G.; Moran, Bill – American Journal of Physics, 1979
Presented are two problem exercises involving rapid compression and expansion of ideal gases which illustrate the first and second laws of thermodynamics. The first problem involves the conversion of gravitational energy into heat through mechanical work. The second involves the mutual interaction of two gases through an adiabatic piston. (BT)
