Self instruction and external instructional methods were compared with 19 mentally retarded adults. Results indicated that participants receiving verbal self-instructional training in the complex sequencing task achieved and sustained a higher level of performance than participants receiving external instruction. Comparison of earnings between control and experimental groups subsequent to participation in experimental training programs provides a credible estimate of program effectiveness. A multiple baseline design across subjects assessed effects of vestibular stimulation on acquisition of erect and symmetrical sitting of three preschoolers with severe and multiple handicaps.
