The study examined cognitive strategies of 21 moderately and severely retarded adults in a simplified Tower of Hanoi problem. Modification of the basic problem by reducing the number of rules and presenting the goal configuration resulted in successful performance during the first training session by 13 subjects. (DB)

Survey of the extent of computerization in social service agencies in Santa Clara county, California revealed some problems that are commonly experienced by organizations undergoing the transition to a computerized information system, and some recommendations for workshops to meet their needs. Assessed the ability of young (N=30) and middle-aged adults (N=34) to solve series problems with problems connected by either marked or unmarked adjectives. Results showed no difference between age groups on the memory measure, but scores on both integration and inference measures were significantly lower for the middle-aged group. (Author/ABL)
