Assigned 139 subjects to intensive behavioral or to low-contact smoking treatment and to 2-milligram nicotine gum or to placebo gum in a 2x2 factorial design. Assessed attitudes toward drinking and smoking among 766 women aged 20 to 30 years. Among nonsmokers, drunkenness and smoking were equally distasteful. Investigated the influence of group cohesiveness on two multicomponent behavioral treatments of smoking. Subjects (N=72) were randomly assigned to treatment.
