Harris, J.; Lynch, M. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science & Technology, 2007
In this note, it is shown that in a symmetric topological space, the pairs of sets separated by the topology determine the topology itself. It is then shown that when the codomain is symmetric, functions which separate only those pairs of sets that are already separated are continuous, generalizing a result found by M. Lynch.

Mohammed, A. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science & Technology, 2007
The purpose of this note is to outline further enrichment exercises with rhotrices and thus to stimulate ideas on mathematical arrays and structures. Rhotrices provide students with examples on how to imagine new forms of arrays and their classifications as abstract structures.

Durlach, Paula J., Ed; Lesgold, Alan M., Ed. – Cambridge University Press, 2012
This edited volume provides an overview of the latest advancements in adaptive training technology. Intelligent tutoring has been deployed for well-defined and relatively static educational domains such as algebra and geometry. However, this adaptive approach to computer-based training has yet to come into wider usage for domains that are less…

Chee, Yam San; Tan, Kim Chwee Daniel – Electronic Journal of e-Learning, 2012
Traditional modes of chemistry education in schools focus on imparting chemistry knowledge to students via instruction. Consequently, students often acquire the mistaken understanding that scientific knowledge comprises a fixed body of "proven" facts. They fail to comprehend that the construction of scientific understanding is a human…

Chronicle, Edward P.; MacGregor, James N.; Lee, Michael; Ormerod, Thomas C.; Hughes, Peter – Journal of Problem Solving, 2008
Results on human performance on the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) from different laboratories show high consistency. However, one exception is in the area of individual differences. While one research group has consistently failed to find systematic individual differences across instances of TSPs (Chronicle, MacGregor and Ormerod), another…

Choi, Gil Ok – ProQuest LLC, 2008
For the past few years, virtual environments (VEs) have gained broad attention from both scholarly and practitioner communities. However, in spite of intense and widespread efforts, most VE-related research has focused on the technical aspects of applications, and the necessary theoretical framework to assess the quality of interfaces and designs…

Bennett, Stuart W. – Chemistry Education Research and Practice, 2008
This paper examines the definition of a problem and at the process of problem solving. An analysis of a number of first and third year chemistry examination papers from English universities revealed that over ninety per cent of the "problems" fell into the "algorithm" category. Using Bloom's taxonomy and the same examination…
