Professional Development Plans for Technology Education: Accountability-Based Applications at the Secondary and Post-Secondary Level
Loveland, Thomas
Technology and Engineering Teacher, v71 n7 p26-31 Apr 2012
Education is a lifelong process of continuous learning and renewal. This is necessary because of ongoing research and changes in technologies. For educators, the need for training leads to a continual search for learning opportunities from many sources. School administrators routinely provide in-service training. National and state associations offer conferences and publish periodicals for knowledge transfer. The value of these sources of information can only be tapped when individual teachers are willing to set professional goals each year that allow them to stretch themselves. One way to develop and set goals is through a professional development plan. Professional development plans, whether developed in secondary schools or postsecondary institutions, are valuable tools in this era of accountability. This article explores these ideas and offers concrete examples of standards-based professional development goals at multiple levels. (Contains 1 table.)
