Relational Aggression of Girls in Treatment: A Challenge for Male Practitioners
Okamoto, Scott K.
Residential Treatment for Children & Youth, v21 n3 p89-100 2004
This study examined the concept of relational aggression and its application to high-risk girls in treatment. Sixteen male practitioners from 9 different agencies serving young people were interviewed about their feelings and perceptions in working with female clients. The survey presents selected examples of manifestations of relational aggression and victimization related to the cross-gender therapeutic relationship. These examples expand upon traditional notions of the concept, which tended to focus on peer-to-peer relationships in the school setting. Implications for practice are discussed.
