Examining the Consistency of Students' Evaluations of Teaching at Different Times during One Semester
Roberts, Rochelle Mendiola
Journal of Faculty Development, v25 n3 p21-26 Sep 2011
This study compared end-of-semester student ratings from students who provided mid-semester feedback with those who did not, to measure how consistently students rated teaching effectiveness. Participants included 394 undergraduates in seven classes. Within each class, participants randomly formed the primed group, completing an online survey twice mid-semester, or the non-primed group, completing an alternate activity at the same times. Both groups completed the university's end-of-semester survey. The results in six classes did not show any significant differences between primed and non-primed students on the final survey; however, one class revealed that non-primed students actually responded more consistently than primed students.
