Franklin Elementary PTA's "Sweet Success"
Freemon, Jennifer
Our Children: The National PTA Magazine, v37 n4 p12-13 Feb-Mar 2012
Just a few short years ago, Franklin Elementary in Glendale, California, was in danger of closing its doors because enrollment was so low. The school district decided to put into place a series of language immersion programs at the site. It currently houses Spanish, Italian, and German immersion programs. These programs have boosted Franklin's enrollment and turned the school around. The PTA board jumped at the opportunity to welcome new parents into the school while continuing to value the families who were already well-established at the school. Keeping the PTA a positive, inclusive force at the school is the key to Franklin's "sweet success."
