Examining Multicultural Counseling Competencies of Rehabilitation Counseling Graduate Students
Donnell, Chandra M.
Rehabilitation Education, v22 n1 p47-58 2008
There has been little examination of multicultural counseling competencies of rehabilitation counselor trainees. The current study examined competency development (knowledge, skills and awareness) of 68 rehabilitation counseling master's degree students across six universities. Results indicate that students did not demonstrate competence in multicultural awareness, knowledge or skill. Differences in awareness and skill levels were noted as a function of student ethnicity and perceived importance of multicultural counseling. Future training needs to enhance multicultural competence of rehabilitation counseling students are discussed. (Contains 2 tables.)
