Communicate with Parents in 7 Simple Steps
Balsley, Jessica
Arts & Activities, v150 n3 p12 Nov 2011
The relationship between art teachers and students' families is a complex one. Because they typically see a large volume of students in a short amount of time, art teachers are rarely the first line of communication when it comes to connecting with families on a regular basis. Most often, communication only occurs when the teacher has great news (i.e.: "Tyler's art was chosen for an art show") or not-so-great news ("John cut Sally's hair in art class and had to visit the principal"). In order to promote their programs and build the awareness of the importance of the arts in the community, art teachers must find a way to connect with all families in their school, especially those who may get lost in the shuffle. This article presents some simple, time-effective steps that art teachers can use to communicate with parents.
