Preparing Faculty in Greece

The current article aimed to describe the process followed for faculty preparation and development in Greece. More specifically, it includes information regarding (a) the possibilities for professional development through Master and PhD programs, (b) the existing faculty categories, (c) the procedure followed by the departments in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to hire faculty members, and (d) the requirements for the faculty for all levels, from lecturer to full professor as well. Moreover, it presents the initiatives for faculty upgrading and ways for development through different activities. However, actions that very often hinder self and, consequently, the university development are considered. In addition, thoughts for further staff development are expressed.
