UK Higher Education: The Truth about the Student Market
Watson, David
Higher Education Review, v38 n3 p3-16 Sum 2006
This article uses data from a series of reports by the Longer Term Strategy Group of Universities UK to outline key features of the developing market for higher education in the UK. The resulting empirical lessons about the behaviour of students and institutions are tested against the political drive for a freer domestic "market" for student places, the development of the international market, and the concept of "world-class" universities. The author concludes with some emerging lessons for university leaders.
