An Infant Mental Health Service for Sure Start Programs: A British Colleague's Chronicle
Balbernie, Robin
Zero to Three (J), v24 n6 p54-59 Jul 2004
As part of a commitment to eliminate child poverty, the British government has established Sure Start programs across the country. Sure Start programs are very similar to U.S. Early Head Start initiatives; their stated aim is to improve the health and well-being of disadvantaged families and children before and from birth. The article describes the Sure Start Infant Mental Health Service, which aims to assist those infants and parents whose relationships are most in need of help. The author recounts experiences working with the Gloucester and Cheltenham Sure Start Infant Mental Health Services, including treatment approaches and data on benefits to families who participated in the treatment.
