CFD Modeling of Water Flow through Sudden Contraction and Expansion in a Horizontal Pipe
Kaushik, V. V. R.; Ghosh, S.; Das, G.; Das, P. K.
Chemical Engineering Education, v45 n1 p30-36 Win 2011
This paper deals with the use of commercial CFD software in teaching graduate level computational fluid dynamics. FLUENT 6.3.26 was chosen as the CFD software to teach students the entire CFD process in a single course. The course objective is to help students to learn CFD, use it in some practical problems and analyze as well as validate the simulation results with published data to enhance their understanding of design issues related to flow problems. Apart from the basic concepts of CFD, students are exposed to grid generation software GAMBIT. They also learn to set up physical model, solver and post processing the results in FLUENT. After that they try to analyze the data independently to address some design issues based on the results.
