Technology on the Horizon
Criswell, Chad
Teaching Music, v18 n5 p30-33, 35 Feb 2011
Each day, dozens of new pieces of technology are released to gadget-hungry consumers. While many of these devices are geared toward the general public, a number of them are finding their way into the music classroom. Certain new products, such as the Apple iPad and iPod, have caused a major stir among music teachers of all grade levels and content areas. Electronic instruments from manufacturers like Korg and Roland continue to be used in fascinating ways in classrooms all over the world. These and other tools that can help make music more accessible to any student of any skill level are changing the future of music education, in ways that are only starting to become apparent. In short, technology that can make a huge difference in music education doesn't always come from the most obvious sources. What at first seems barely musical "or" educational may turn out to be an invaluable aid in tomorrow's classroom.
