Graduate Teaching-Assistant Development in College and University Instructional Physical Activity Programs

The goal of this article is to provide readers with a current model for instructor development and support within a college or university instructional physical activity program (C/UIPAP). First, a brief description of Auburn University's C/UIPAP is given to provide context. Second, the author outlines four key phases of instructor development: (1) recruitment and employment, (2) preteaching preparation, (3) preteaching orientation, and (4) inservice development and support. Third, the article concludes with some general recommendations regarding the development and support of graduate teaching assistants. (Contains 2 tables.)
