Journals in the Language Classroom
Baxter, Scott J.
English Teaching Forum, v47 n4 p22-26 2009
In this article, the author describes some of the ways that journals can be used as teaching tools in the language classroom; in fact, the suggestions he makes could be applied to the use of journals in teaching just about any subject. He begins by describing the concept of writing to learn, which is the theoretical foundation that journals are based on. After that, he gives practical advice for using journals in the classroom. Next, he shares his own advice and presents feedback about journals from students at the American University of Bulgaria. Finally, he ends with specific suggestions for how journals might be used at different moments during a lesson.
