Examining Language of Information Books for Children
Inan, Hatice Zeynep
Education, v130 n3 p399-403 Win 2010
In recent years, inclusion of information books in early childhood centers is well-advised since children show fast developing knowledge of information book language and enjoy reading those books. The aim of the current study is to discuss features of information books' language by examining the illustrations and texts of randomly selected 15 information books for children. In this study, languages of selected books are specifically examined in terms of the verb construction, generalizability of information in such books, the characters appeared there, and Duke and Kays's list of linguistic features of information books. (Contains 2 tables.)
