Physical Education and Sport, v52 p5-10 2008
Study aim: To determine the effects of network planning on teaching untrained subjects windsurfing. Material and methods: Untrained physical education students (n = 390), aged 19-23 years, took part in the study while staying on a summer camp. They were randomly assigned into two groups: experimental (n = 216) and control (n = 174). Two methods of teaching were applied: Critical Path Method (CMP) and the conventional one, to the experimental and control groups, respectively. At the end of the training course both groups were subjected to practical sailing test assessing their technical skills. Results: Students taught windsurfing by applying a CMP-based curriculum acquired markedly better skills as reflected by ratings compared with those trained conventionally (4.46 [plus or minus] 0.79 vs. 3.57 [plus or minus] 0.79 and 4.19 [plus or minus] 0.84 vs. 3.43 [plus or minus] 0.70 in male and female students, respectively). Conclusions: The CMP method of teaching windsurfing may be implemented in various teaching centres due to its high efficacy and accessibility. That method may also help promoting windsurfing among young sailors. (Contains 4 tables and 4 figures.)
