As pressure grows on continuing education (CE) operations to maintain or even increase their contributions to the parent institution, the imperative to consider partnerships with outside organizations for some aspects of institutional operations should be a key consideration. But under what circumstances does partnering make sense? How can a CE unit create conditions for effective partnerships? How can partnerships be properly monitored and terminated? The aim of this article is to provide perspective on partnering effectively. The authors discuss such topics as when to establish a partnership, how to engage and evaluate prospective partners, maintaining a productive partnership, ending a partnership well, and when not to enter a partnership.
