Creativity an Ultimate Goal and Challenge for Education: A Response to Ghassib's Article
Sisk, Dorothy A.
Gifted and Talented International, v25 n1 p111-115 Aug 2010
This article presents the author's response to Hisham B. Ghassib's article entitled "Where Does Creativity Fit into a Productivist Industrial Model of Knowledge Production?" Ghassib (2010) outlines a Productivist Industrial Model of Knowledge Production, in which he calls the knowledge enterprise an industry in which creativity and innovation play a central role in the process. His observation that science has become the largest economic sector in modern society, both in terms of the number of scientists, engineers, technicians and administrators working in it, and in terms of governmental and non-governmental investments in it, is both sobering and awe inspiring for educators to ponder. Ghassib (2010) points out that the modern economy is based on a rapidly developing scientifically based technology and that this technology is constantly revolutionizing. These are exciting concepts that form a foundation for a knowledge industry. He defines six components of the knowledge enterprise as an industry including the productive sites, the producers, and the peculiarity of the product. The author addresses the first component, that of the productive sites of universities and research institutes which are crucial to the realization of the proposed model.
