It's All about the Learners
Griffiths, Jane
Adults Learning, v21 n6 p30-31 Feb 2010
When Gloucestershire County Council's adult education service was inspected by Ofsted in October 2008, the processes that were being used for recognising and recording progress and achievement (known as RARPA) were found to be weak. Recognising the benefits of such processes to learners, the author successfully applied for funding from the Excellence and Improvement Fund--managed by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service--to run an action research project to improve RARPA through the use of e-technology. The aim of the research project was to look at the range of teaching strategies in use across the service, and to use the five-staged RARPA process to improve, consolidate and innovate. The particular focus was on using e-technology to improve the capturing of the RARPA process. In this article, the author explains how e-technology played an important role in helping Gloucestershire adult education service improve its processes for recognising and recording achievement--engaging teachers and producing a more learner-centred service in the process.
