This article discusses how to design and execute a faculty development workshop. The author first describes the characteristics of the faculty development event that can sabotage or facilitate attendance. They relate to: (a) format and frequency; (b) venues; (c) technical support; and (d) competing activities. Then, the author presents ten strategies to increase attendance at faculty development events. These include: (1) survey the faculty; (2) pick interesting topics; (3) experiment with broad-appeal and timely topics; (4) schedule event to minimize competition with other events; (5) sell the event; (6) call it a conference, not a day; (7) provide presentation opportunities; (8) provide incentives; (9) require registration; and (10) promote to regional institutions.
