Although fundraising is not necessarily a natural activity for those trained and serving in student affairs functions, it is activity to which those in the field may have to grow accustomed. Fundraising on behalf of student affairs needs to be undertaken with a widely understood process and clearly articulated goals. When student affairs staff members engage in activities that are in support of parents or when they provide services or support to young alumni, they are, in effect, supporting donor cultivation. Training in development work is essential for those who have responsibility for it, whether it is the primary responsibility they have or a secondary one. This chapter summarizes key points and conclusions made in this volume and points toward the challenges and opportunities of the future.
