The author examines how problem-based learning (PBL) and technology may be combined in the English literature classroom in order to inspire various types of collaboration, which, in turn, improves critical reading, thinking, and writing skills; hones research skills; encourages interdisciplinary study; energizes discussion; enforces connections between class content and students' lives; and establishes learning practices to be used beyond the confines of the classroom and the course term. To date, PBL has been used the most in math and science courses in higher education. The author demonstrates how this pedagogy may be implemented successfully in humanities-based courses.
