Drug Treatment within the U.S. Federal Prison System: Are Treatment Needs Being Met?
van Wormer, Katherine; Persson, Lance Edwards
Journal of Offender Rehabilitation, v49 n5 p363-375 2010
A large percentage of inmates in the U.S. federal prison system have serious drug problems and are in need of treatment before they return to society. Accordingly, the Federal Bureau of Prisons has revamped substance abuse programming consistent with the latest research and expanded treatment services throughout its institutions. This article examines evidence from top administration and insider inmate reports at a federal prison in the Midwest to determine to what extent treatment needs are being met.
