Media literacy, already practiced in the schools of other nations, has the potential to transform American curriculum and teaching. The media, from films to the Internet, are certainly present in American elementary and secondary schools; however, media literacy is still far from a typical part of every young person's educational experience. Moreover, many issues and obstacles to the widespread incorporation of media literacy in schools remain. In this article, the author examines some of the major obstacles and issues that face media literacy educators, and speculates about the future. (Contains 1 note.)
