This article describes electronic board portals and how they can contribute to the efficiency of the functioning board in delivering timely information for decision making. The electronic board portals are provider-hosted services that allow those who prepare board materials to organize and place on the Web a secure version of board packets, with authorized access by trustees or other designated individuals wherever and whenever they have internet access. The authors believe that board portals may be a better way to produce board books and communicate electronically with trustees. The article enumerates the features of a board portal and provides input from many board professionals regarding their decision to use a board portal.
