The content mastery center (CMC) model is responsive to the federal requirements of providing access to the general education curriculum for students with disabilities and allowing special education teachers to meet the highly qualified requirement by providing consultation and support services in the content areas. The CMC model has been implemented in schools since the mid-1980s, however, there is little literature on this service delivery model. This article provides an overview of the CMC model, with suggestions and examples for others who are implementing or considering implementing the program. Information from various sources is synthesized to provide this overview, including (a) goals, (b) program structure and organization, (c) instructional services provided to students, (d) responsibilities of general and special educators, and (e) record-keeping procedures.
