As part of an integrative learning experience at the end of a sophomore Calculus II course at the United States Military Academy, this project served as a multidisciplinary problem-solving exercise that explored the connections among mathematics, biology, and other fields of study. During a seven-lesson block of instruction, this module was primarily intended to develop student awareness of the role of mathematics in all disciplines, especially the field of their recently chosen major. As a result, in addition to building mathematical models and exploring solution techniques for the resulting differential equations, several hours of class time focused on the connection between their mathematical models and the multidisciplinary issues involved in the scenario.
