Textbooks on Reserve: To Text or Not to Text?
Ward, Randall K.
Community & Junior College Libraries, v16 n1 p71-73 2010
There are several factors to consider when deciding whether to add copies of textbooks to a library's holdings. These include monetary, security, and other issues. There is also the question of electronic reserve. A major problem could be that students would try to rely only on the library copies rather than purchasing their own, making these copies hard to keep on the shelves. In our college, the lack of security gates provides an opportunity for the books to go missing. There are, however, definite pluses for the student. The student would be able to check out the textbooks if his was temporarily unavailable.
